Child allowance (児童手当)
For you if: you raise a child in Japan, up to the first March 31 after the child turns 18.
- Apply at your city office.
- Payment usually starts the month after you apply. Apply early.
- Apply again when a new child is born, or when you move to another city.

Who can get it. Both the child and the parent must live in Japan.
When it is paid. Usually every 2 months: April, June, August, October, December, and February.
How much (per child, per month). Under 3: 15,000 yen. From 3 to the end of high-school age: 10,000 yen. Third child and later: 30,000 yen. Each payment covers the 2 months before.
At the end, check at the counter. You can show this card.
