Register your address (転入届)
For you if: you have a residence card (在留カード) and you moved into a home in Japan.
- File a moving-in notice (転入届) within 14 days after you settle into your new home.
- Where: your city office (市役所・
区役所・ ).町村役場 - Bring: your residence card. If your card comes later, bring your passport.
Steps
- Go to the city office for your new address.
- Fill in the moving-in notice (転入届).This can be different in each city.
- Show your residence card. The office adds your new address to the card.
- Later, the city office tells you your Individual Number (マイナンバー).
If you are late
The rule is 14 days. If you are late, still go to the city office. You can show the second card.
What to bring
More details
What you get. After your notice, the city office makes your certificate of residence (住民票). It shows your name, date of birth, sex, and address. You can get copies for a fee.
When you move again.
- To another city: file a moving-out notice (転出届) at your old city office before you move. Then file a moving-in notice at the new city office within 14 days.
- Inside the same city: file a change-of-address notice (転居届) within 14 days.
- To another country: file a moving-out notice before you leave.
At the end, check at the counter. You can show this card.
