Emergency: call 119 or 110
For you if: someone is badly sick or hurt, there is a fire, or there is a crime or accident.
- Ambulance or fire: call 119.
- Police (crime or traffic accident): call 110.
- Public phones can call 119 and 110 without coins or cards.
Steps
- Call 119. Say "kyūkyū (救急)" for an ambulance, or "kaji (火事)" for a fire.
- Say where you are. Give a nearby landmark or the address.
- Say the symptoms and the age of the sick or hurt person.
- Say your name and phone number.
More details
Calling 110 (police). The operator asks what happened, when, and where. Then your name and phone number. Stay calm. Answer with as many details as you can.
If you cannot call. Ask someone near you to help.
Public phones. If the phone has a red emergency button, lift the receiver, press the button, then dial. If not, lift the receiver and dial.
Visitors to Japan. The Japan Visitor Hotline helps with accidents and emergencies: 050-3816-2787. It is open 24 hours, every day. Languages: English, Chinese, Korean.
