For you if: your purpose in Japan changes, or you want a part-time job as a student or dependent.
- To change your purpose of stay: apply for a change of status of residence.
- To work with a status that does not allow work: apply for permission first.
- Apply at a Regional Immigration Services Office.
More details
Change of status (在留資格変更). For example, a student who gets a full-time job. You usually need your passport, residence card, a photo, the application form, and papers about your new activity.
Permission for other activity (資格外活動許可). For example, a part-time job with “Student” or “Dependent” status. Get permission before you start.
Questions about your status: call the Immigration Information Center (外国人在留総合インフォメーションセンター), 0570-013904. Weekdays 8:30 to 17:15. It answers general questions.
