Pension when you leave Japan (脱退一時金)
For you if: you paid Japanese pension for 6 months or more, and you are leaving Japan.
- You may get a Lump-sum Withdrawal Payment (脱退一時金).
- Apply within 2 years after you no longer have an address in Japan.
- Think first: after the payment, your past pension periods no longer count.
Steps
- Before you leave, file a moving-out notice (転出届) at your city office.
- Get the application form from the Japan Pension Service website.
- Send it so it arrives after your moving-out date.
More details
All of these must be true.
- You do not have Japanese nationality.
- You paid Employees’ Pension, or Category I of National Pension, for 6 months or more.
- Your pension periods are less than 10 years in total.
- You no longer have an address in Japan.
- You no longer have Japanese pension coverage.
- You never had the right to a Japanese pension, including disability benefits.
If you still have an address in Japan when your application arrives, it is rejected.
Social security agreements. Japan has agreements with some countries. You may be able to combine pension periods. See the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s list.
At the end, check at the counter. You can show this card.
