Basic work rules (働くルール)
For you if: you work in Japan, as a full-time, part-time, contract, or dispatched worker.
- Your employer must give you your main working conditions in writing.
- You must get at least the minimum wage (最低賃金).
- Overtime, work on your weekly legal day off, and night work get extra pay.

Things an employer must not do. Fix a penalty in advance for breaking the contract. Take an advance loan (前借金), given on the condition that you work, out of your wages. Force you to save money through the company.
If the conditions are not as promised. You can end the contract right away.
Minimum wage. Pay below the minimum wage is not valid, and the minimum wage applies. You can claim the missing pay.
Working hours. The legal limit is 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week. Over 6 hours a day: at least a 45-minute break. Over 8 hours: at least 60 minutes. At least 1 day off a week, or 4 days in 4 weeks.
Extra pay.
- Overtime: 25% or more (over 60 hours a month: 50% or more)
- Work on your weekly legal day off (法定休日, not a national holiday): 35% or more
- Night work (22:00 to 5:00): 25% or more
Paid leave. After 6 months, if you worked 80% or more of your work days, you get paid leave. Part-time workers get it too.
Pay rules. Wages are paid in full, directly to you, at least once a month, on a fixed day.
At the end, check at the counter. You can show this card.

This card says: “Please give me my Notice of Working Conditions.”
